Be Kind To Yourself–You Deserve It!

Have you ever found yourself victim to caring too much about what others think of you? Have you ever been too embarrassed to step out of your shell and do something that might you look silly? Have you ever held your tongue out of fear of judgment?  I think most people have. It’s incredible how we can stand in the way of our own happiness. When we deny ourselves the right to be vulnerable and free in our own skin, we’re being very unkind to ourselves.  We tend to be adept at kindness when it comes to others but when it comes to ourselves; a lot of us get stuck. Free yourself: You deserve kindness and most of all; you deserve to give it yourself.

A while back, I signed up for Happiness Notes, a newsletter by Amy Pearson that provides insight, encouragement and resources to help you find happiness. In a recent article, she listed 25 simple ways to be kind to yourself. Here are a few of my favorites from the list and a few I added. How are you kind to yourself? Share in the comments!

  • Give yourself a hug
  • Call yourself “sweetie”
  • Take a bubble bath
  • Laugh at your own jokes
  • Give yourself a compliment
  • Write “You are beautiful” on your bathroom mirror in lipstick
  • Do something right now that makes you happy
  • Make time to move your body even if it’s 10 minutes
  • Dance silly for 5 minutes while watching yourself in the mirror
  • Make yourself a “you are awesome” playlist
  • Send yourself a thank you note
  • Do something “frivolous”
  • Admit that you are special
  • Stop hanging out with that negative and judgmental “friend”
  • Eat more greens
  • Let yourself suck at something so you can get better at it
  • Go with the flow (you don’t have to control everything)
  • Laugh, laugh, and laugh some more
  • Write down what you want. Everything. Then refuse to judge it.
  • Put on your favorite dress and take yourself on a date
  • Make yourself a special dinner
  • Don’t make yourself do things you don’t like to do even if you’re good at them
